Should you automate before hiring?
A growing workload can mean different things. Before choosing software or recruitment, find out whether the bottleneck is repetitive admin, specialist skills or simply more work that needs a person.
Measure a representative week
List recurring tasks, their volume and time spent. Separate rule-based activities such as transferring records from judgement-led work such as advising a customer. Include the exceptions that make an apparently simple task harder to automate.
Look for a small, useful change
A better form, shared record or connection between two tools may reduce the workload. Test a manageable change before assuming you need a large custom platform.
Keep the full cost in view
Software has discovery, implementation, training and ongoing support costs. Recruitment has its own costs and adds human capability. Compare the options against the work you actually need done, rather than treating them as interchangeable.
Decide what the freed time is for
Set a practical goal: fewer manual handovers, quicker follow-up or more time with customers. If the remaining work still requires more capacity or different skills, recruitment can remain the right next step.
